Joint Bachelor’s Degree Program with City University Expands its Reach

In late January 2016, School of General Studies Vice Dean, Curtis Rodgers traveled to Shanghai and Guangzhou, China to speak to parents and prospective students about the Joint Bachelor’s Degree Program between City University of Hong Kong and Columbia University. The program allows students to earn two bachelor’s degrees—one from each university—by completing the undergraduate curricula of both institutions.

These events were the first of their kind held in mainland China, but this was not the first time that Dean Rodgers has traveled overseas in an effort to raise awareness and interest in the Joint Bachelor’s Degree Program. In October 2015, he visited the CityU campus in Hong Kong to introduce the program to students, parents, and CityU faculty and staff as part of City University Hong Kong Information Day. Additionally, Dean Rodgers held information sessions in Hong Kong and Singapore alongside representatives from CityU.

Last month, CityU hosted a student sharing session in January, in which two current Joint Bachelor’s Degree Program students met with current CityU students who are interested in applying to the program. Rudra Gopinath and Xiaotong Lin, both third-year students majoring in computing mathematics, shared their experiences in the program with a group of their CityU peers, who hope to join them on campus at Columbia in the Fall 2016 semester.
